Christ Gives A Second Chance; John 8: 1-11

This Sunday we are now (in our verse-by-verse study) at chapter 8 of the gospel of John.  In this text, there is a question as to the placement of this particular episode in verses 1-11; as it does not seem to fit here in this part of John’s gospel.  We’ll talk Sunday as to its true history in the events of Jesus life, but how it seems it would fit better in the synoptic gospels.  Here we see Jesus’ great grace and forgiveness as the scribes and Pharisees bring a woman (apparently) clearly guilty of adultery.  Jesus turns their setup back on them (the religious leaders) and shows them their hypocrisy.  As a result, the woman is forgiven (saved) and implored to stop sinning; as is the desire and plan of all believers as they strive toward holiness.  There is so much more here to learn.
