Running From the Lord: Jonah 1: 1-3

This Sunday, we continue our new series studying the book of Jonah.  This week we will look at Jonah 1:1-3.  Here Jonah gets his word (command) from the Lord, and decides not to obey it.  He rises up (arose v. 3) to get away from the Lord, and then goes down, down, down.  The irony is that when he, and people run from the Lord they think it’s going up, getting ahead in this world!  But people can’t get away from the Lord (Psalm 139:1-10)!  Here Jonah runs and goes in a different direction; far away in a different direction!

Are you running from the Lord?  Has God been working, or trying to work in your heart and life? And you are going in the opposite direction away from the Lord?  As we’ll learn from Jonah, running from God can’t be done…
