Radical Truthfulness, James 5: 12

Liar, liar pants on fire! Is a kid’s saying accusing another of being caught in a lie and the discipline that would come their way for lying.  Are you always truthful?  Are you sure? Is it possible you could be a lot less truthful than you think?  This Sunday, as we continue our study in the book of James; our text is chapter 5, verse 12.  In this one verse, James speaks of something most important or very important to believers everywhere: honesty, truthfulness!  “But above all” (v.12a) – most important in tough times, but always telling the truth is of utmost important in our day to day lives.  Scripture tells us over and over how important it is, and how God blesses integrity.  God’s Word also warns over and over the troubles, problems, outcomes of lies. So, James exhorts: stop swearing oaths and just tell the truth. Say what you mean, mean (do) what you say – let your yes be yes and your no, no.  Always, always tell the truth!  This Sunday morning, I want to talk about the vast problem of lying in our world and society; how it affects us, and ways we can be better, with God’s help, at being radically truthful!
